Boots on the Ground

Stuck on a document request that's gone quiet? I'm based in Croatia and can go in person to push it forward: the local civil registry office (matični ured), the parish, or the archive. Real answers instead of unanswered emails.

Who it's for

For anyone whose application has hit a wall that's hard to solve from abroad.

Citizenship-by-descent cases, or general Croatian records research. Most come down to one or two documents: an ancestor's birth or marriage record, proof of their citizenship or zavičajnost, a church book entry from a village that has since been renamed. If you've exhausted what can be done remotely, this is the next step.

Typical requests

  • — Locating a civil birth, marriage or death record at the local registry office (matični ured)
  • — Searching parish or state archives for records older than civil registration
  • — Confirming an ancestor's citizenship or domicile (zavičajnost) record
  • — Requesting certified copies in person when the office won't respond remotely

How it works

Four steps

1

Purchase and intake

After checkout I'll send a short intake form: who you're looking for, what you already have, and where you've already looked.

2

I review and plan

I confirm which office or archive is the right one, and tell you honestly if I think the record isn't findable before any travel happens.

3

I go in person

Registry office, archive, or parish, whatever the record needs. You get updates as I go.

4

You get the result

A written summary of what I found and what to do next, so you know your next move either way. Turnaround varies, it really depends on the parish or office and who I'm dealing with.

Hourly

$45/hr3-hour minimum

For anything that doesn't fit a clean package: complex lineage gaps, multiple towns, records that need to be pieced together. I'll check in before going past what you've paid for.

Choose this
  • — If your case ends up needing more than what's included in a package, I'll tell you before doing any extra work. You're never charged more than you agreed to.
  • — +$40 flat travel fee for locations outside the Zagreb metro area.
  • — Not a lawyer, not a guarantee, Croatian bureaucracy moves at its own pace. But you'll have someone physically showing up and following through, instead of an email disappearing into a void.
  • — Non-refundable, because the visit and search time are booked for you. I can't guarantee a record exists or can be released; that depends on what survives and on each office's access rules.
  • — There's no booking calendar for this one yet. After purchase I'll contact you directly to get started.
